Missions · Reaching the World for Christ

NHBC describes a missionary as a dedicated servant of Christ who is called to share the gospel, often crossing various geographical and cultural boundaries, in response to the Great Commission. Frontier missionaries, similar to the Apostle Paul, focus on reaching those who have yet to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and lack access to churches that preach the gospel within their own culture. On the other hand, cross-cultural missionaries, like Timothy, journey to distant places to support established churches that can greatly benefit from their assistance. Therefore, missions ministry involves spreading the gospel beyond the immediate reach of the sending church, aiming to evangelize and teach the Word of God to those with limited or no chances to hear the gospel, ultimately to establish and strengthen local congregations.

The church has the important role of carrying out the Great Commission. Christ's ultimate goal is the Spirit-led spread of the Gospel in an effort win souls from every corner of the globe. The church plays a vital part in praying for,  equipping, and sending out individuals who are truly called to become missionaries and plant churches around the globe.

A genuine motivation for global missions stems from a deep love for God's glory, combined with a Christ-like compassion for all people. We long to see God revered as He deserves across the globe. Therefore we echo the psalmist's prayer, "God bless us, that all the ends of the earth may fear Him." (Psalm 67:7). Furthermore, just as Jesus Christ showed compassion and mercy to the lost to glorify God, we engage in missions with compassionate hearts, ready to make sacrifices for those who do not know Christ.

We understand that in certain restricted access countries, the gospel can only reach people through secondary channels such as community development efforts like healthcare, agriculture, and education. We recognize and support these qualified individuals who are dedicated to making disciples of Jesus Christ as they work in their fields, with the ultimate goal of building and strengthening local churches. While biblical missions encompass more than just humanitarian aid, such efforts can serve as a demonstration of Christ's love and a way to open doors for sharing the gospel.

We also value the important role of support missionaries who are dispatched to provide essential services. Many of these individuals, including Bible translators, pilots, mechanics, administrators, builders, engineers, and educators, are not only skilled church leaders but also equipped believers who prioritize biblical ministry and are dedicated to making disciples of Jesus Christ within their areas of influence. Beyond their administrative or technical roles, they actively share the gospel, exemplify godly living, and instruct others in the Word of God.

By engaging in missions ministry, the church is an essential element in God's worldwide plan. Therefore, global missions is a key focus for NHBC, as it allows us both as a congregation and as individual believers to align with God's will for evangelism.
